Underwater blast resistance of double cylindrical shells with circular tube stiffeners

Underwater explosion seriously affects the combat performance and vitality of submarines. In order to improve blast resistance stiffened double cylindrical shells, a new type style that replaces traditional T-shaped stiffeners with circular tube stiffeners, namely O-shaped are studied. A series comparative underwater tests carried out on two scaled shells O stiffeners. Based tests, more detailed numerical simulations made explore influence structure parameters shock whole structure. It is shown show superior crushing than ones when large plastic deformation appears shells. As dominated by harmonic buckling while flattening tubes, latter can produce greater absorb energy reduce internal pressure hull thin hull. The response spectrums measuring at also be significantly attenuated high frequency band. Therefore, may effective sacrificial connected structures in submarine.
